Lehle 1@3

Lehle 1@3 Amp Switcher

Switches 3 Amps or 2 Amps and 1 Loop

What makes the Lehle boxes worthy of a place in your rig? They are virtually indestructible, they eliminate the dreaded interaction and ground loops between output channels and amps, they are dead quiet, passive and your precious tone will not be altered one little bit. - The Tonequest Report May 2003

The Lehle 1@3 can be used in 1 of 2 modes: Mode 1 enables you to switch between three amps - the signal is routed (without semiconductors) directly via gold plated relays to 1 of the 3 outputs: A, B or C. The other 2 outputs are muted. Mode 2 allows the user to plug their effects chain into the special C-B input (Output C is muted). In this mode, the effects chain is tied into amp B as follows: when "B" is depressed, the input signal is routed to amp B - dry (effects chain bypassed); when "C" is depressed, the input signal is routed to amp B - wet (effects chain engaged). The Lehle 1@3 can use any power supply between 8 and 20 V with either polarity (AC or DC). The supply voltage is internally rectified and stabilized in order to guarantee trouble free operation. High intensity LEDs behind a magnifying lens makes it easy to read switching state (A, B or C) even under bright spotlights. All Lehle switchers are totally passive. To the purist, what this means is that the great tone you bought your particular tube amp for in the first place will not be comprimised. Active switcher boxes (with their resultant change in impedance from high to low) cause an amp's crunch/distorted tone to become fuzzy. Lehle switchers maintain that unique interaction between guitar and amp, as if there is only a high quality cable in between.

THE LEHLE 1@3 DOES NOT ALLOW SIMULTANEOUS COMBINATIONS OF AMPS -- THE LEHLE 1@3 ALLOWS ONLY ONE AMP ON AT A TIME

What’s the difference between Lehle and other switchers?
The buttons
What catches the eye when looking at a Lehle Switcher? The large mushroom buttons.
When the musician presses this button with his foot, it activates a momentary switch
located inside the switcher via a metal lever. Since button and momentary switch are not
mechanically connected, only the button takes the strength of the foot’s pressure. No
pressure is applied to the circuit board.
Switching with the highest level of signal integrity
The signal sent from the jack of a guitar or bass is so weak that bad cables, cold
soldered connection points or cheap contact materials audibly impair the sound. To
switch these weak signals without any tone coloration or signal loss requires special
materials. All Lehle Switchers route the signal via special gold plated relays. This
guarantees clear and reliable switching of sensitive signals.
Lehle switchers switch in a passive mode
Lehle Switchers route the signal passively (without semiconductors in the signal path).
The sound of a guitar or bass is mainly created by the interaction of a weak signal (from
the instrument) and a very sensitive amp input. When the
signal is enhanced by an active buffer amp (as in more commonly available switcher
units), the tone is altered considerably and the signal becomes less sensitive. There are
uses for a buffer amp and other active components, but not in the signal path of an
amp/channel switcher for purists!
What’s the meaning of “True Bypass”?
The musician does not want to alter the unique sound developed by the interaction of a
prized instrument and amp combination he or she has chosen.
For this reason, most “boutique” effects units are “true bypass”. The only problem with
this concept is that the actual switches used contain contact materials originally
developed for the routing of large currents (i.e. manufacturing machinery). The use of
this type of switch becomes audible when (after a certain amount of time) the resonating
tone of a guitar suddenly cuts off. Compared to the direct path of instrument to amp, the
sound of an instrument routed via a chain of switched off “true bypass” effects is quite
dead.

Lehle Switchers use only gold plated relays, specifically developed for the switching of
very weak signals - REAL “true bypass” switchers.

Made in Germany

All Lehle products use only brand name components. Cover, bottom and circuit board
are firmly bolted with each other using rustproof threaded inserts. The double-sided
printed circuit board, made of fiberglass reinforced epoxy resin has plated-through holes.
This guarantees stability, durability and the best possible electrical connection of all
components.
All individual components (housing, circuit board and buttons (including spring and
socket) are manufactured, assembled and tested in Germany.
