From New Old Stock to Heavy Relic, a reproduction of a prized vintage model or a cutting edge modern design, the Custom Shop offers many levels of service designed to give the discerning guitar player the ultimate playing, sounding, looking and feeling instrument. Here’s a list of some of the things you’d need to consider…
Body type – alder, light ash, mahogany, bubinga or something even more exotic
Neck type – 56 big maple, 57 slimmer V maple, 59 slim profile maple or rosewood slab, 60-65 C or D shape rosewood veneer, 66 - 70 maple cap etc. Ebony board, brazilian rosewood, tele neck on strat body with matching painted headstock maybe?
Fretboard radius – vintage spec. is 7.25”, a very popular radius is 9.5” but you can have anything up to 13” if you want a really flat board.
Fret size – anything from tall skinny vintage Fender spec to big fat low bass frets
Finish type – usually thin skin nitrocellulose for CS guitars, you can have any colour you like inc. sunbursts, all metallic finishes or a custom graphic
Finish grade – NOS, Closet Classic, Relic, Heavy Relic or mix n match – I order lots of relic guitars with NOS necks for guys who want a smooth feeling neck on an authentic relic body.
Pickup types – anything you like inc. humbuckers & piezo systems.
Wiring harness – 3 way or 5 way switch, tone pot wired to back pickup etc.
Scratchplate & plastics – white, black, mint green, parchment, tortoiseshell, chrome knobs, amp knobs, dice knobs etc. etc.
Case type – black/brown/white/cream tolex, tweed, choice of lining colours, center pocket case maybe?
From Team Custom Built to your choice of Masterbuilder, anything is possible! The list goes on and on but I’m sure you get the idea, I’ll be happy to consult with you to get your dream guitar. Bear in mind that the more extreme the spec, the more the final price is going to be so don’t go crazy unless you really want to push the boat out. Expect prices to start at around the £1800 mark and go up from there.
