Celemony Melodyne CRE8
Melodyne is a programme that allows a completely new approach to the handling of audio material. It analyzes the pitch and time of monophonic audio files (from, for example, singers, wind or string instruments) and offers the opportunity to change whole melodies in a way only previously possible at MIDI-Level. New Features In 2.0
MelodyneBridge, allowing the program to be connected to any VST or AudioUnit host.
Rewire support
MIDI implementation
New Effects
VST and AU effects support
Cre8 supports 8 tracks of 48kHz and 24 bit audio.
Studio Edition supports unlimited amount of tracks of192khz and 32 bit audio.
What Melodyne can do. Melodyne is able to change the musical parameters of voices or instruments without any actual influence on the character of the recording. Melodyne extracts the pitch and the rhythm, and provides an area in which to play with the audio material. Any change in this material is interpreted by the software in a musically intelligent manner and the result will always sound natural. Working with Melodyne is as easy as editing notes with MIDI. Important features at a glance Pitch shifting and formant correction by more than an octave are performed without affecting sound character and velocity. New melodies can be invented with a given material and unpleasant intonations can be corrected with a mouse click. A change in intonation is possible by an increase or decrease in phrasing or vibrato. A change in formant is produced by an amplification or diminution of the resonance volume, thus making a trombone out of a trumpet sound or a tenor out of a soprano voice. Flexible time-stretching allows the acceleration or deceleration of a single note or of a whole arrangement through the concept of local sound. There are no limits to deceleration, and a standing sound will be the ultimate result when velocity is zero. Melodyne recognizes the rhythm of music, as each given note "knows" its place within a beat. Notes can thus be quantified automatically, and they can also be synchronized to a reference melody with a mouse click. Via copy and paste, a new melody can be derived from single notes or a new arrangement can be created from single tracks. Differences in beat will be corrected automatically.
Melodyne is available in two versions: cre8 and Studio Edition. Both of them have the same tools and the same sound quality. While Melodyne cre8 is intended to be used in project and home studios, the 'Studio Edition' is more for pro audio applications. The differences are: CRE8

Direct IO:On Mac OS X Pitch Shifting and Time Stretching ... were considered special operations in the pre-Melodyne Studio age to be applied to your audio material for correction or adaptation purposes. In Melodyne Studio, you don't even think about time stretching, pitch shifting, or formant correction. You just grab the notes that were automatically recognized by the software and move them around in pitch or in time, and everything will sound as you would musically expect it to do. Or you move the tempo slider while the music is playing, and you will hear the tempo change without affecting the pitch - just as you would expect it from musicians playing faster or slower. Detecting Notes From Your Recording You can record your single melody tracks as you would do with any other hard disc recording software, or you can import them as audio files into your arrangement. You may also import Melodyne Studio files that were generated in a previous session with their notes already detected. It is not important that timing, pitch, and the musical scale of imported melodies fit exactly to your current arrangement - it's easy for Melodyne to adapt them. If you want to edit a melody you double click it and after a short detection time the melody editor will open. The notes show up in their position in time and pitch, and you will also see the exact phrasing of a melody line. Change Your Music While it Plays All changes can be made on the fly even while the melody is running - you will hear your changes while you move the notes. You can also make the moved notes snap to the next semitone or to a defined musical scale, or even define the new scale of the whole melody or selected notes by clicking the scale selector buttons on the left hand side of the editor. Time is Changing on the Fly Handling time changes is just as easy as handling pitch changes - you just grab the note and move it to the desired position. Dependent on the tool you choose, the subsequent notes of a moved note can be shortened, or they can also move in time. If you stretch a note, it will not be simply stretched linearly: its start will keep its original character, e.g. the consonant at start of a syllable or the noisy part of plucked string will be left unchanged. On the other hand, you can change the character of note starts without changing their overall duration to make the melody sound more percussive or more legato. Arrange Your Music In Melodyne's arrange window you will see all your melodies with their notes. So you will always see what is on a track without listening first. Here you can move tracks around, and copy or loop melodies. You can save detected melodies for reuse in another arrangement - remember, it is easy to fit them into an arrangement with different timing, pitch or scale... MIDI Export of your Melodies You can save the melodies detected by Melodyne as MIDI files to view them as a score in a notation program, or you can export your melodies with their pitch and amplitude information to make your favorite synthesizer play the melody with your vocal line phrasing. System Requirements Mac PowerMac, Mac OS X and 256 MB free RAM (512 or more recommended) PC Windows SE, ME, and XP and requires a PII400 class processor and 256 MB of free RAM (1GHz and 512 MB recommended). Meloyne supports DirectX, SoundManager, CoreAudio and ASIO2 for sound I/O and many audio formats (WAV, AIFF, SD2, SND, AU).
