Yamaha unveil QY100, the world's first palm sized music recording facility - All you need is an idea? and a pocket!
We live in a digital world seemingly obsessed with size, and one where producing miniature technological breakthroughs has become expected.
Yamaha Music Production say forget phones, palm top computers and MP3 players - lets get serious - how about a super cool, stylish, fully professional digital recording studio measuring a breathtakingly minimalist 21 x 15 centimetres, total surface area for a 16 track fully loaded digital recording facility - 315 centimetres, almost the same size as a standard VHS cassette!
With a price of £449, the stunning new Yamaha QY100 is aimed at all budget conscious musicians whose creative demands include 24-hour access to quality recording and music production tools. This product will become indispensable for "on the move" music production and songwriting.
Technically and functionally the QY100 offers far more than 16 track recording facilities, it contains over 500 AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) sounds, 22 programmable drum kits, effects processors an a/d input for microphone, guitars and or any other analog input source making it also ideal for young wannabes producing demos.
And to reassure those musicians who still think big is beautiful, the specification list of the QY100 is truly impressive. It boasts 16 linear recording tracks, a huge database of in-built musical styles to help break that creative block, 32- note polyphony, 24 - way multi-timbral voices and three programmable 24-bit effects processors.
The QY100 also houses a fully featured professional XG synthesiser, 4 megabyte of ROM and 32,000 note sequencing capacity. The 128 preset styles are ideal for accompaniments and backing tracks, in addition the 64 user
programmable style slots can be used for creating fully arranged original backings for live vocals and other instruments.
The addition of a 'smart media' TM slot enables huge numbers of MIDI song files to be stored and transferred to and from the QY100. An intuitive user interface, including an easy to read 128 x 64 LCD display and a 25 key mini keyboard provides speedy programming and operation.
